This is next try in the history of my travel blog which I opened a while ago, reworked, closed, moved to Google Plus and now opened again. And the first post is about short and gloomy trip around California.

The trip took just 3.5 days and went by simple route: Mountain View – Sardine Lakes – Mono Lake – Chocolate Lakes – Yosemite – San Francisco Airport. We targeted for the lakes of California, Yosemite came as bonus ;)

We arrived in the late afternoon to Sardine Lakes, but weather was pretty gloomy changing to rain from time to time. As result – no nice sunset, not nice photos…

To continue tradition of travelling and sleeping in forests and parks of the US we rented big SUV beforehand. This time it was Chevrolet Suburban. So we slept in it just by removing 3rd row of seats and folding middle row. Have to say that Ford Explorer that we took last time was much more comfortable for sleeping. In general it is very comfortable – you always wake up right at the spot were nice sunrise it ;)

In the morning we continued our way to Bishop, CA and then to Mono Lake. Weather promised nice views by fast changing storms and sun lights.

When we arrived to the lake the light was already good for good shots. We started right away. Then took a short pause to drive to buy some wine and cheese and continued our photo session. All the time till the dark night it was stormy and sunny and stormy.

We slept at the parking lot at Mono Lake and continued our journey in the morning. Next point were Chocolate Lakes. So we drove there, pretty close ride. We started our hike, but at the first lake were turned back by… snow. Snow in the end of May in California stopped us from reaching the main part of the lakes area…

After return we continued to Yosemite park via Tioga Road, which took another 3-4 hours. We were heading to Tunnel View point and prayed for good weather. Yosemite met us with snow. However as we moved to lower altitude snow disappeared.

When we arrived to the Tunnel View point it has been raining like hell! Despite that we took a few nice pictures. And then cooked our dinner right in the car ;)

And one more night at the parking lot. Unfortunately morning didn’t bring better views. So we descended into the valley. The fog was so lovely there and the views were so cool that I wished to return to Yosemite for probably a week. Its pity that best views last so little.

After an hour of running around and taking pictures we packed everything and headed directly to SFO for my flight back home ;)
